Munich. The home of Oktoberfest 2007 and a few million hangovers. We decided to put down our steins for a day and check out the city with a Tiki Tour around Munich. Really cool city full of old buildings and what we all voted the BEST McDonalds in the WORLD…so far!!
Oktoberfest could be explained as ‘Disneyland with Beer’!! They take up to 2 months to assemble the beerhalls and the rides just for 16 days of the Festival!! Then a whole month to take it down again!!
Firstly the Beerhalls were amazing – 14 of them each fitting around 4,500 people inside and 2,500 outside!! The opening day was so busy that it took 8 hours to get a seat in a Beerhall!! Once we got there though it was amazing!! The beer is beautiful!! So easy to drink and not full of crap so hangovers dont exsist…much!!
Our tip for getting a table…get the girls of your group to chat up the locals….they get offered a seat…then the boys sit with them and get angry looks from the Germans…and a Russian who Im sure put a hit on me…but as I told him…”WHAT???” Still he didnt shoot us and we got our first stien!!
Outside is just as amazing…not like the regular carnivals at the New Plymouth Racecourse…but like the Auckland Easter Show on steroids! They had 2 Roller Coasters with loops and everything…a Log Flume….heaps of indoor roller coasters…3 towers of terror type rides and any other ride you can imagine!!
Our fave?? The Star Flyer. Swinging around and around on seats hoisted 80 metres in the air. The chains looked extremely thin – but managed to hold us!! Check out the pics for the awesome view that we got!
Our other fave….the CRAZY HOUSE!! This sure was Crazy…even before a couple of beers!! The girls walked out of there with massive bruises due to the ‘hamster wheel of doom’!!
The food was awesome….half chickens were the favourites, follwed by massive sausages and salami sandwhiches!! MMMMMM
In total we spent about 3 days at Oktoberfest and kept seeing new things every day!! Its was just huge!!
