You should have all had this very important date in your dairys anyway – but for those who didnt…last Thursday was Jax B’Day…and we spent it in Italy!!
Late Tuesday night I told Jax about the ‘secret location’ I was taking her (im sure she knew!!) and bright and early on Wednesday morning we flew out of Gatwick to Venice!
All we can say is…WOW!!
The weekend kicked off with an early morning flight from Gatwick Airport to Marco Polo Airport in Venice, Italy. From there we travelled out to the ‘floating city’ by bus – and once we finally worked out Venices ‘bus boats’ we found our way to our small but very flash hotel!!
The 3 days were then spent wandering the many alleyways and side streets of this amazing city – there was no way to avoid getting lost, you just had to accept that it was going to happen!! We checked out the daily markets, the local shopping scene and the sights of Venice including San Marco, the Venice clock tower and so much more. What also made the trip great was the ‘Venice Carnival’ was on as well. This consisited of thousands of local dressed in Ventian Masks and costumes all day and night. There was also free entertainment and a whole heap of fun!! Was very surreal walking the quiet alleyways at night and bumping into somone in these costumes!!
Jax`s Birthday itself was great – we jumed on a boat and headed out to a place called Lido for a look around – before heading back to Venice checking out the city and buy some cheap wine to start the Birthday celebrations!! After a bottle of bubbles in the hotel we headed out to find a local Pizza resturant where we had Birthday dinner – the food was amazing!! Pizza, Pasta, Wine and Gelato – the perfect Itlian dinner!! We then headed further into town to take part in a very random parade at midnight with giants…very random but fun!!
All in all Venice was fantastic and well worth the trip – its a Birthday we`ll never forget!
