Today was a big day as we re-created the fun we had in Amsterdam…no not that kind of fun…but it was Bike Tour time!! We found a company who did Bike Tours around the city on fantastic 70′s style bikes…and once again gave us free beers at the end!!
So we met down at the bike shop and picked out our bikes with big handle bars…Jax one was purple with flowers…Jordan had a racing red one with flames on the tyres!!
We headed off down the narrow streets of the Gothic Quarter, and ended up at the Barcalonetta Ports…which we discovered were created for the Barcelona Games…in fact most of the beachs and buildings down there were created for this reason!!
We then rode along the palm tree lined streets (on loan from Hawaii until 2010…no kidding!!) until we got to the Olympic Village…now just apartments!! After the ports we took to the busy streets to the Barcelonas Bull Ring…and heard some grim stories of how the Bull Fights work…not really a story for this blog!!
Soon after we took to the streets again and biked up to the amazing ‘Famila Strada’ Catherdal, which was desinged by ‘Goya’ and not due to be completed until 2026…despite work starting on it around 1920!! This building was mind blowing and made even more interesting by the stories surrounding it.
After the break at the cathedral, we drove to Barcelonas version of the Arc De Triomphe…which is usually given to countries after winning wars etc…but in this case Barcelona just wanted one…it was crooked though!!
After a ride through a local park our tour was over and it was beer time!! Very much needed after a 3 hour bike ride through a very hot city!! Awesome tour!!
Soon after we jumped on the metro (we were buggered at this stage!!) and headed up to another of ‘Goyas’ creations…Park Guell. This park was amazing with Ginger Bread looking houses at the entrance (hence the blog title!) Inside the park (along with hundreds of tourists!) was awesome buildings, caves, markets all designed with mosaics!! The highlight of this visit had to be the long walk to the top of the park for a breathtaking view of Barcelona city!!
Once again we had Orgasims…sorry we mean Organic Orgasmic dinner from the markets and after a final walk down the Ramblas to check out the street performers (including Jordans fav statue…a midget doing magic!! Priceless!!) it was time to pack and get ready for tommrrows mammoth journey…to the French Riverea!
