Early morning we left on a train heading to Rome!! The journey was only about 2 hours which meant we weren’t overly tired, just annoyed that we had to get up ealry in the morning…I mean we are on holiday afterall!!
We got in Rome Centrale station at around 11:30am, and jumped across to our hostel which was located just across the road from the station, and close walking distance to all the important sites of Rome!
After checking in we decided to head down to the world famous ‘Colosseum’!! What an amazing building – it was exciting enough just to walk around the outside – but inside was just as amazing!! Its mind boggling to think that this massive structure used to hold 80,000 people and featured Gladiator Combats and Wild Beast shows – where half time in the battles, thieves would be chucked to the beasts for a half time snack!! It was also amazing to think that the building was started being built in 72AD, and had also been turned into a Quarry and also someones House!!
After heading to the Colosseum we checked out the Arch of Constantine outside, then across to the Palatine Hill and the Roman Forums!! By this stage we were knackered – but kept walking through the massive sets of ruins!!
One tip for Rome – get money out before you arrive. ATMS dont work and we were fast running out of cash. We did hear a rumor of one ATM in the train station that accepts international cards so will try that tommorrow…. today it was out of money!!
We headed back to the hostel to semi un-pack and head down to cook some dinner in the hostel kitchen. Jax (the new Gordon Ramsey) whipped up some Chicken Risotto in the same time it took Jordan to run the streets of Rome looking for some Fanta to go with dinner!! Either way it was delcious!!
Time for bed, tommorrow we were heading to one of the worlds greatest museums, in the worlds smallest country…
Talk soon.
