Scooters need petrol!

5 08 2008

This morning we woke full of beans and ready to explore the island of Paros!! The best way to do this is to hire a scooter which is what we did! After some bartering we agreed on a price we hopped on and we were off. The hireage place explained that there was enough fuel to get to the fuel station round the block…in fact there wasn’t and we ended up pushing it, what a great start!!

Soon enough we were off and heading around the north of the island to a seaside town of Naoussa and stopped at a beach called Kolimvythres. Next we kept heading around the island stopping at the Punda Beach resort, where nearly everything costs including the beach access!! Rip Off!!

Instead we kept driving south and found a small beach with just a handfull of people and had a quick dip in the crystal clear water. At this stage our stomachs were complaining so before heading off once again on our big adventure we stopped for lunch!!

Soon we were off again and visited the valley of the Butterflies, which was as the name suggested, full of butterflies. Very cool!! Continuing around we stopped off at a beach that was different from the rest…it had waves (kind of!!) We were stoked so stopped there to get slammed a couple of times. Its amazing how calm oceans get kinda boring and only there to cool off!!

Next was back to the main town of Paros, Parikia, before cutting across the middle of the island to the town of Lefkes. Jordan was a little worried that our trusty scooter would make it to the top of this winding road, but the hunk of junk proved us wrong and we were soon in this traditional Greek village, complete with white houses, paths and blue roofs!! Just like a postcard!! We headed around the town by foot – before cruising back down the winding hill to the main town to drop off the scooter…all in all spending only 4 euro in petrol!! Bargain!!
