Today was explore day…and what an island!! We began by hiring ourselves a Quadbike (Brian would be very proud of us…and then embarresed to find out it was only 50cc!) We headed to the south of the island to Red Beach – litterally a Red Beach with Red volcanic rocks…why?? Well read the history of Santorini and you’ll soon understand, as its too hardcore to put in this blog!!
This beach was amazing!! We parked the quad and hiked around the red rock face to reach the beach where we had a qiuck dip and dried off (very quickly) on the black sand beach. The Jax took over the driving of the Quad, and headed to Cape Akrotiri to explore the lighthouse. It was only a lighthouse but had a great view of the island. On the way back through the island we stopped at a local roadside stall to sample some sundried tomatos, olive oil and red wine…all delicious and FREE!!
We then headed East of the island to the town of Kamari where we picked up some lunch which we decided to eat at the beach, which once again had black volcanic stones which were hot, hot, hot!! Still is was a nice beach with clear water and plently of boobs about!!
Soon after we headed back to the main town of Fira before then driving north to the town of Oia. Let us explain…any pictures you’ve seen of Santorini was taken at Oia…its awesmoe!! The town was just like the postcards but very expensive…but we can see why. It had a awesome views and a fab location overlooking the cliffs of Santorini…perfect place to pop the question….but that didn’t happen…
Later that night we dropped the Quad back in Fira, and met up with some fellow travellers for dinner…it was crap. We decided to drown our sorrows and go clubbing…you can only imagine what hapened from here.
