The big day had finally arrived! We have been looking forward to lazgin out on a boat for weeks now! And the day had arrived.
After a fantastic night in the ‘resthome’ we awoke refreshed and ready to test out our sealegs! That morning, the old lady was VERY interested in getting us out fast…we found out why when another couple arrive to take over our room at 9am! MMM dirty sheets!
We begun to pack our bags and the kind lady offered for us to keep our bags in her hallway…this is where it went down hill…..while assisting the lady, and stacking our bags…Jordan scratched the wall…..I have never seen such a disgraced face from a old lady – and the language barrier didnt help…instead a lot of groaning, tuts and wiping of the wall was had. There was no chance that black stain from our backpacks was coming out anytime soon. Long awkward story short….we didnt store our backpacks with the old lady….and will never see her again…..Oh well at least we got a good sleep!
We headed down the street to check out the local market, as yesterday was a holiday – nothing much was happening. Today was bustling, dozens of boats in the port, markets packed to the brim…and two Kiwis looking for Lilos!! We left the market with some fantastic bartering skills that day – paying silly money for a new Croatia towel, lilo and Jordans present…a Snorkle! Bring on the Croatian Seas! The mission then began as we headed to the port to find our ship, the Vrgarda!
There was litterally SO many ships in the port, it did take us a long time to locate ours. The boats were all docked up against each other…so when we finally did find our ship, we had to cross another 4 ships to get there! NOT easy with a backpack each!
We met with the crew and the other travellers, and then headed up to our ‘above deck’ room. We walked in and suddenly I wanted to be back at the old ladies….scratched walls or not…our room was TINY! Two bunk beds and enough space to put our bags in…the only problem is then we couldnt fit in as well! Finally we made it work and we hit the open seas!
Beer and Grapa were the sponsors of this afternoon as we met the 25 other passengars on board…Aussies, Kiwis, Poms, Saffas you name it they were on it! The pinalce came when we stopped in the crystal clear Croatian waters for our first dip! We lived the dream and all jumped of the top deck of the boat! Bliss!
That night we headed to the port of Markaska, where we headed out for dinner with new found friends, then heading to a bar in a cave! Talk about health and safety! This bar was on the waters edge and even had a step ladder to the Croatian waters – great for drunk toursists! We sat by the waters and sipped on Cocktails before retreating back to the boat for the night…our first night slowly rocking…..
