This morning Team Extreme was formed – by the leader of our group the ‘Penetrator’! This morning we got up early for a MASSIVE adventure day as we took in the sights of the Triglav National Park.
After leaving the apartment we headed first up to the Kranjska Gora with Jasna lake and got a taste of the fresh European Air that we could look forward to today. We also got a feeling for the water – which was VERY cold!
We begun the day by having a hike around the Vrsic Mountain Pass, which we were told was the highest mountain range in Slovenia – complete with the amazing whole in the mountain rock in the shape of an Eagle! Amazing! We then we walking to the source of the Emerald River (which we’d be rafting down later). This walk took us along cliffs, with raging waters beneath us – and we only had a small wire to clutch onto….not the best day to wear Jandals! Once at the source we stumbled upon a very small water cave – enough to fit one person. It was very calm at the source of the river- but after the first waterfall, then thundered along. The source was only 5 degrees in temperature. So team Extreme made the challenge and we all jumped in one at a time! This was the coldest water I have ever experienced – but have never felt so refreshed once I got out. Only the boys jumped in, and when just about to leave we notice Jax secretly stripping down to her undies (forgot her Bikini again!) and taking everyone by surprise and being the only girl to jump in the water!
Soon we had some lunch after the trip back down the cliffs – and before long we were about to embark on the Emerald River first hand….while White Water Rafting! This was bound to be a magic trip! Team Extreme soon got kitted up and ready to go – complete with full Water Rafting Kit – I was hoping the wet suits would keep us warm in the freezing water – but after jumping in found out I was wrong! No time to moan though as we headed on down the river. We began with the basics of heading down the river. Once mastering those and hitting just a couple of rocks – we stopped at the river side for a break. And some fun!! We found a MASSIVE rock on which we turned the boat upside down and used to slide into the water!
Soon enough we had to get serious again as we headed back down river – the water was getting much wilder the further down we got. No-one fell out…but we had some VERY close calls! Its amazing how fast you whip past the rocks!
After another rest we headed down river for the last section…the roughest and most testing part. Out guide mentioned he thought we would struggle – as we weren’t paddling hard enough…a great confidence booster that was! The white water was churning now – more than we had ever seen it as we headed down the river (even backwards at times) towards the last drop of the day! We finally did complete it and to celebrate all bailed out of the boat and INSTANLY got suck down stream by the force of the river…and amazing yet terrifying experience!
Soon after the trip continued – with a walk along a VERY unsettling and unstable bridge! But it was all worth it as we stumbled upon a MASSIVE cavern with the coldest water and them most amazing waterfall…..it was so good – yet again we all jumped in to check out the waterfall up close and suffer from hypothermia!!
Soon it was time to head back – but not the normal way, as we drove onto a Car Train…a train that you drove your car onto and sat in the car the whole journey! After a couple of beers while waiting for the train to depart – we finally did get going and joked about the experience of our trip. The train journey also got interesting as we went into the longest tunnel in Slovenia and came out the other side after having all swapped clothes and seats in the van….I guess you had to be there!
The day finally ended as we watched the sunset over Lake Bled and amazing site and an amazing day….Bled is now one of our favourite places in Europe!
