Safari Day Three!

5 01 2009

Its day three of the Safari – after a long night being kept up from the laughing Hyenas around camp! We left for a early morning game drive in the Masai Mara before we hit the road for the next park of the trip. This was made special by the fact that we could see the sunrise over the hills in the Masai Mara, before spotting the usual Giraffes, Zebras, Gazelles and Buffalo’s etc. We did also spot a Lion eating out on the plains looking at the sun. As an Eagle then trotted past with his dinner/breakfast in its claws as it hobbled along the road.

There didn’t seem to be much happening this morning until Big John got a call on his radio and heading off in a great speed – he kept quiet to where he was heading – but we knew it must have been exciting by the speeds that he was driving!

We soon arrived to see plenty of other Safari Vans parked up, as Big John got us close to the action that everyone was looking at. It was amazing. 4 Lions had killed a Giraffe the evening before and still munching out meat from the body. They were also forced to protect the food that that had caught from the prying Hyenas that were trying to get a piece of the action! One Lion continued to eat as the remaining three lions protected the food. A Lion even caught a Hyena in action and killed him – but did not eat him as Lions consider Hyenas dirty meat – that didn’t stop the Hyenas from having a go at there ‘mate’!

Soon enough we returned to camp after an exciting early morning game spot! We had some breakfast and packed up our gear as soon we were off to the next National Park of the day – Lake Nakuru.

The 5 hour drive was amazing on terrible roads and a ever changing landscape – this landscape changed from the dryness of the Rift Valley to the green hills and tea plantations Son enough we had checked into the Nakuru Hotel for the evening and a chance to relax – tomorrow was to be a big day of game spotting!

That night we had some dinner and our last shower for a long time, as tomorrow we were also heading back to Masai land!
