A Trip to our new Home…

7 01 2009

Today was transfer day to our new house in a small village called Olmaroroi. That morning was spent packing and preparing for the transfer day. Before we left, we made a quick visit to the Kimuka Village Nursery – who were having there 3rd day open for business! It was great to meet the kids who were still VERY nervous about being at school!

Soon we were packed and ready to go and ventured another 30 minutes into Masai Land to our VERY traditional village called Olmaroroi. Our host mother sadly was not there to greet us on arrival as she was at the Nairobi Masai markets for the day working, but we soon discovered that our family has two wives….and wife number 2 was on hand to take us into the new house! We were introuduced to one of the sons of wife number 2, who greeted us with a song on his new keyboard. We soon found out he knows only one song and is still playing the same song as we write this!!

Later that evening over dinner we met with our ‘Nini’ or our ‘Mother’ – Teresea, and her kids Sima, Benson and Issac – and the all the other kids of Wife number 2 – Silus, Christine and Tanako. We still had plenty of people to meet – as there is about 20 people in the compound of the houses!

Later after dinner we got the chance to meet our host father named Joshua (they do all have Masai names as well – but the spelling would be terrible if we attempted them!) After meeting, eating and greeting we hit the sack for our first night in the heart of Masai Land – complete with yelling goats…. check out a quick tour of our house below….
