Today’s arrival to school saw a group of boys outside the teachers lounge – waiting to get the cane! What a way to start the day! This is the method of punishment here – you be the judge on whether you agree – we didn’t. This is only because it seemed so un-effective! One by One the boys got two wacks on the back of the legs by the cane – and then each boy proceeded to run off….with the BIGGEST smile on the faces ever! They loved it! What kind of punishment has kids happy??!! Get them writing lines on the blackboard or picking up trash we say! Make it a useful punishment (a technique Jordans father uses!)
Today was also momentous as we finished the complete schools grading and they were to begin class on Monday! Yay! Problem is that there is a strike scheduled for that day!
As grading was completed and school coming to a end – after our third meal of the day (lunch) we headed home after collecting that evenings load of water from the school water tank. Tonight was a typical one – family in the kitchen, chatting, cooking, eating and language lessons – before we all headed to bed for the evening – but with ONE small hitch – today was VERY windy and a little wet, which meant that ALL of our stuff is covered in dust in our room! So we proceeded to sweep dust in a dark room with one head torch – not the best job! Soon we tucked ourselves in for a rough and windy night – so windy we were sure that the roof was going to blow off!
