Day 2 of the strike, and still no word on when we will return to school. This morning we got up early to prepare the school for the new windows which were to be installed today…with our help!!
We first begun the morning by continuing the work we started yesterday on the school desks. We made an extra 3 desks for the kids in about 2 hours. During this time we got visits from many locals eager to know what we were doing, and also a visit from the local chief, a powerful man that we seemed to make a great impression in front of!!
Before long the windows had arrived, and the two Kenyans who we had hired to help had also arrived. The rest of the day was spent digging our hands through foul smelling putty and installing the new windows along the back of the senior classrooms. We had enough time and energy to finish the job – but lacked the putty so needed to wait for a delivery later that evening from Ngong of more putty until we could complete the job.
In the meantime the DP of the school handed us the master keys to the school, which obviously meant we were the only ones turning up to school during the strike!
We became very tired, so headed home to join the family for dinner before huddling around a radio to hear Barak Obama enter the Whitehouse.
