The Last Day in NYC!

5 11 2009

We awoke this morning after a long night in the Meatpacking District –and our bodies paid the price! We may have over-indulged just a tiny bit, but who could resist, when you’re sitting in a New York bar watching the New York Yankees win the World Series?!

As today was our last day in the Big Apple – we had to fight the urge to stay in bed and get out and enjoy it (im glad our night was spent in a less than desirable hostel instead of a fancy hotel!!)

First up we got some fresh air and walked around the southern end of Central Park. The park was an amazing contrast, as you are surrounded by orange trees loosing there autumn leaves, before looking up and being towered by skyscrapers.

I then suddenly realised why Jax wanted to head only to the south end of the Central Park….as its closer to the shopping on 5th Ave! We started by visiting Bloomingdales, which by far was the store that we both enjoyed the most. Of course we left the store with the trademark `little brown bag`(im sure Jax would have preferred the `BIG brown bag`!), but she couldn’t complain as our next stop was the home of Tiffany’s Jewellers on 5th Ave, walking out with a spot of Jewellery from the 6 floors of this collection!

Time was ticking and we still had sights to see – so jumped on the subway and made our way to the Financial District in the south end of Manhattan, getting off near City Hall. We soon walked the wooden boards of the world famous Brooklyn Bridge, resisting the urge to turn and face the city until we had at least crossed halfway. We were treated with an amazing sweeping view of the whole island!

Next up was a walk down Bleeker St, as we slowly made our way back to pick up our bags and board our waiting bus. We should point out here that we are big fans of TV, so walking down Bleeker gave us a great opportunity to see the building used in `Friends` on the corner of Grove and Bedford, and also Carrie Bradshaw’s apartment from `Sex and the City, just around the corner on Perry Street. And what stroll down Bleeker St would be complete without a visit to the famous `Magnolia Bakery`, with the delicious Red Velvet Cupcakes (just quietly, we still preferred our favourite `Hummingbird Bakery` in London!)

Sadly the day had to come to an end, as we boarded the bus for a short journey to Philadelphia, PA!
