Living Like Stars!
6 11 2009As much as this is a budget holiday, we have managed to treat ourselves with some impressive rates from websites like Hotwire and Priceline. Arrving in Philadelphia was one of these cities, as we managed to get a room in the Double Tree Hotel in downtown Philadelphia for $16 more per night than the local hostel!
With the choice of two king size beds, LCD TV and a wonderful shower meant that we had a bit of a rest morning in Philly, making the most of the luxury before our next hostel! We did manage to make it out, and our first point of call was the Terminal Markets, just off market street in the Old Town. The market is classed as one of the 3 largest indoor markets in America, and made finding lunch a challenge! Talk about choice!
We ended up going for a local tradition of indulging in a Philly Cheese Steak. Created from a local Philly man, this sandwich was a walking heart attack. Filled with beef and topped with melted cheese. Jax took the Chicken option and added some veggies to the top. There was no way that we could finish one steak each for lunch, so we wrapped up the remaining half for an afternoon snack!
Philadelphia is also home to one of the four American Mint plants in the country. So we made a quick visit to the plant to see the coins being produced and rolled out to the banks, producing as much as 1 million coins in 30 minutes with the fully automated machines.
We ended the day early, planning on seeing the historical sites that we visited Philly for, early on Saturday morning.
