The Windy City!

16 11 2009

Another day in the windy city, and we were yet to have a windy day! Sure today was chilly, but it still didn’t stop us heading out and trying out one of Chicago’s best bargains…the Lincoln Park Zoo!

We were blown away by the size and scope of the Zoo – only because it was completely FREE! It also catered for the colder months with all the displays having both an indoor and outdoor portions, so we didn’t freeze!

Particular mention has to got to the African exhibit, where you walked through open walkways, past cage less birds and even cage less spiders! The sign says that the Spiders won’t leave – but how you can be sure?! A favourite was the hippo display – we sat for long time watching the hippo play with the fish and every 5 minutes come up to the surface! It turned into a game for us to time a photo of the hippo rising to the surface – and us getting in the shot `next` to him!

The rest of the day we wandered around the rest of the exhibit halls, peering into the cages of Tigers, Cougars, Cheetahs, Apes and Monkeys…oh and did we mention all for FREE! It makes us feel less guiltly about heading back for our favourite pizza AGAIN!

That’s right – Deep Dish Pizza night Number Two! This time though we managed to get reservations at the original Deep Dish Pizza restaurant where the pie was invented, and were pleasantly surprised how easy it was to fit in this time! All that training from Saturday nights meal must have paid off!

Before long we found ourselves in the theatre of a Imrpov Theatre group. Chicago is known for producing some of Americas finest comedic talent – so we headed to IO (Improv Olympic). This theatre has given us comedians such as Tina Fey, Mike Myers, Chris Farley and Andy Richter! For $12 it was a great laugh and a perfect way to finish our time in the Windy City…tomorrow we were heading off to our next destination!
