Too Much Coca-Cola?

23 11 2009

It’s a sad fact that we both drink a lot Coca Cola. Probably more than what we should! So while in Atlanta we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to visit the home of our favourite product and a museum dedicated to it – at the World of Coca Cola!

The 2 level museum was jammed pack full of Coke memorabilia, a look at the history of the drink, a theatre dedicated to the advertising of Coke, a 4D Adventure film to look for the secret of Coke and also the worlds slowest and smallest Coke factory (so that we could see what was going on!) Technically this was two floors FULL of advertising for Coke – with the final room the pinnacle….the Tasting Room!

Over 60 flavours were on tap and ready to try – all broken down into the countries that they are currently still being sold in. Particular mention has to got to the USA – we were excited to find that `Mello Yello`(which left stores in NZ in the early 90`s) was still being sold in certain States and was also in the tasting room! A real blast from the past for us! Also we have to mention the Italian `Beverly` soda, which can on ly be described as the most disgusting drink you could put down your throat. It really tricked you – at first it was fine….but just wait for that after taste!

We finished our time in the tasting room as any kid would – and putting a tiny sample of EVERY drink into one cup and giving it a go….you can imagine our thoughts on the results!

Of course Atlanta was also the home of the Olympic Games in 1996 – so we headed for a walk through the Centennial Olympic Park on our way to the CNN News Centre. The park is currently littered with Christmas displays and even has the typical Ice Skating rink in the middle playing tacking hits from the 90`s. Today’s playlist on the walk past included hits form ‘Ace of Base’! Just past the Skating rink is the ‘Dancing Fountain’ display in the shape of the Olympic Rings. It was certainly a challenge timing your run into the rings for that perfect photo op, and as one of us discovered it pays not to get too over confident! A good chance to dry off was during the water shows that played a couple of times throughout the day – where the water was choreographed to music!

We finished the afternoon by taking a tour of the CNN Newsroom. It was an interesting look into the news rooms, studios and behind the scenes from the news studios that broadcast to the world – complete with overpriced photos at the end!

It was time to get back to the hotel for the evening as tonight we were heading off – once again on the Greyhound – for our next destination…..New Orleans!
